In 2017, Dasuni Siriwardhana, affectionately known as Das among her friends, embarked on a journey that would shape the creative landscape of Sri Lanka. At the time, Das was a student in Computer Science, balancing academic demands with a growing curiosity for design. One day, while working on a printed assignment for her lecturer, she encountered an issue that would change her life: the struggle to create an aesthetically pleasing cover page using Microsoft Word.
Frustrated by the software’s limitations, Das began searching for better tools to bring her creative vision to life. However, she quickly discovered that graphic design, as a profession, was not widely recognized or accessible in Sri Lanka. She couldn’t find anyone locally who could execute her ideas, even for payment. What caught her attention during her research was how design studios in other countries thrived as creative powerhouses. Inspired by their work, she realized there was an untapped potential for such a concept in her home country.
Driven by determination, Das enrolled in the few graphic design courses available in Sri Lanka, diving headfirst into the world of design. She started working at photo labs, digital printing centers, and communication hubs, honing her skills. But over time, she noticed a troubling trend: creativity was undervalued. Her superiors focused solely on quick profits, neglecting the artistry and innovation she was passionate about.
Unwilling to compromise her creative vision, Das took a bold step. In 2017, she founded Das Design Studio, a place where creativity would have no boundaries. The studio was born not just from a desire to create, but from a mission to elevate the standards of design in Sri Lanka and beyond. Das brought with her the lessons from her struggles, a relentless pursuit of learning, and a commitment to delivering meaningful, original designs. Today, Das Design Studio stands as a testament to Das’s unwavering belief in creativity’s power to inspire, solve problems, and transform brands. It serves clients globally, embodying its founder’s journey from a determined student to a creative trailblazer.
While searching for branding support for my battery manufacturing company, Zephyr, based in Germany, I came across Das Design Studio. I was immediately drawn to the creativity and precision in their portfolio. Working with them was smooth and professional—they understood my needs and delivered exactly what I envisioned. Their design approach is thoughtful, and their attention to detail is clear. I look forward to seeing how they grow, especially as they expand into tech, development, and digital marketing.
