The Challenge
When the Chairman of Waters Edge approached Das Design Studio, the goal was bold: build a hospitality brand identity design for Waters Edge Recreations—a new sub-brand under the prestigious Waters Edge Hotel. The challenge? Capture the full spectrum of recreational experiences—gym, fine dining, cocktails, dance, entertainment, and rich Sri Lankan culture—in a logo that retains the iconic “W” of the main brand.
The Approach
Our process went beyond logo design. This was a full-spectrum hospitality brand identity design rooted in storytelling, culture, and modern aesthetics. We began with research on global hospitality branding, cultural symbolism, and recreational iconography.
We kept the legendary Waters Edge “W” as the centerpiece. Around it, we illustrated a circular system of icons representing fitness 🏋️, tennis 🎾, cocktails 🍸, coffee ☕, gourmet food 🍽️, live music 🎷, dance 💃, and Sri Lankan traditions like drums 🥁 and masks 🎭.
Every icon was hand-drawn to reflect authenticity—no templates. We used a luxurious gold and deep navy palette to symbolize elegance and sophistication.
The Outcome
The final result was a stunning, culturally rich, and emotionally resonant hospitality brand identity design. It now appears across signage, websites, event banners, and merchandise. The client praised our attention to detail and the seamless tie-in to the master brand.
