The Challenge

As a long-standing partner of Waters Edge, we were entrusted with the creation of a distinct yet cohesive brand identity for their newest vertical — Waters Edge Recreations. This sub-brand required a logo that connects deeply with both Sri Lankan culture and modern recreational experiences.

The brief was layered: the logo needed to encompass elements representing Sri Lankan heritage, fitness, bar and nightlife, culinary arts, coffee culture, tennis, and other leisure activities, while still aligning with the iconic “W” logo of the parent brand. The challenge was not just aesthetic — the design had to work across digital screens, print, merchandise, and environmental signage with clarity and elegance.

The Approach

At Das Design Studio, we took a storytelling-led design approach. Starting with symbolic research into Sri Lankan culture and modern urban recreation, we curated a collection of visual elements that would not only resonate locally but also project global sophistication.

We crafted a circular emblem centered around the original “W” logo, acting as the anchor of the brand. Surrounding it, we meticulously illustrated thin-line icons representing:

  • Traditional drums and masks (Sri Lankan culture)
  • Gym equipment and tennis rackets (active lifestyle)
  • Cocktail glasses, coffee mugs, and gourmet dishes (leisure & culinary)
  • Palms, fireworks, and music (celebration & entertainment)

The Outcome

The gold-on-deep-blue color palette adds a sense of luxury and timelessness, while the circular layout evokes community, unity, and energy. Every curve and element was hand-drawn — no templates, no shortcuts — to ensure authenticity and bespoke design integrity.

The result was a visually rich, symbolically deep logo that’s now the face of Waters Edge Recreations. It harmoniously blends their parent brand’s identity with a vibrant, dynamic personality that invites guests to experience everything from fitness and fine dining to culture and coffee.
